Why are we so negative?
Sometimes, we all feel dejected, unhappy, empty; no matter whatever the situation is at that time—our minds are filled with all the negativities. Yes, usually this happens when the external world is not going as per our expectations. But, many a times this is not the case. We ourselves surrender to these negative feelings. We wonder why there are so many negativities within us, although we all want to live happily in this beautiful world! I don’t have a clear answer; but, there is a golden path which will certainly help us to get rid of those negativities.
How can we be free from negativities?
What is that path? It is the path of kindness. May be at first glance, you will not be convinced. How can being kind lead you to happiness? Yes, it is true– you being a kind person is not going to solve problems of your life. So, what is the point of being a kind person? If we introspect a little, we will find out that most of the negativities come from our self-centredness. Whether it is anger, jealousy, hatred, resentment, whatever we may call it. However, I am not saying being self-centric is a bad thing, rather it is needed for our survival. But, we know, too much of everything is a bad thing. Likewise being too concerned about our own self all the times is also a serious disease.
Why does kindness matter?
But, good thing is that kindness is always an antidote of self-centeredness. While we do something for others out of our compassion, we always think about others putting aside our selfishness. For that moment, we are least concerned about ourselves; we give our attention to the need of the other person in front us. While kindness overflows our hearts, we break our own cocoon of self-centredness inadvertently. A sense of peace and fulfillment dawn on our hearts; at least for that moment we do not want to be the self-centric men full of negativities.
How can we practice kindness in our lives?
What if the kindness becomes a habit for us? Will not it be a great thing? Like any other habit we may also inculcate the habit of kindness. Once, it becomes a part of our daily lives, it will change our perception towards life. If we try to be compassionate towards others consciously, we will start seeing the same people around us differently. Believe me- it will open your heart. A stream of positivity will start to flow in our hearts. Gradually, the negative emotions will recede from our lives. Once, kindness becomes a habit, you will notice the barrage of negative thoughts are bothering you less, because, your life is now full of its opposite kind.
Moreover, when most of the people will practice kindness in their lives, the world will naturally be a more nicer place to live. All the troubles, hatred, war etc. in this world are reflections of the negativities within us. If we become more kind towards each other, many troubles that are being faced by the world will vanish automatically.
Benefits of being kind
Practice of kindness can easily be started in our personal lives. It is not at all expensive; we just need the right intention. We can start from our own family members, friends and colleagues. In a day, we should try to perform at least one kind deed for someone else, without expecting any return. This will be your daily dose of kindness. After doing it for few days, you will see noticeable change in your attitude towards life.
However, it is easier to say than done. For various reasons we will lose the intensity of our kindness activities. It is important to start one day, but, equally important is to do it continuously for longer duration to see the positive results. So, is there any help? Answer is definitely yes. There is a wonderful app to document your kind deeds. The app is called ‘Black lotus’. You can download it from play store. You can perform ‘Random act of kindness (RAK)’ as much as you can and log in that information in the app. Let’s embark on the journey of making the world a more kinder place together; at the same time you will find a new dimension of your life for sure.
